ChatGPT for SEO: 12 Easy Examples

  /  August 25, 2023

ChatGPT exploded onto the scene in November 2022 with a flurry of news and hype, and for good reason: it is the world’s smartest chatbot.

So far it has passed Wharton’s final exam for the school’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, several law school exams, and even the United States Medical Licensure Exam.

Is ChatGPT Good for SEO?

Beyond helping students with homework and exams, can ChatGPT help online publishers create SEO content that will rank and get traffic?

The short answer is yes. But before I tell you more people also ask about the possible negative consequences of using ChatGPT.

In other words…

Will Google penalize ChatGPT content?

In my experience, google will not penalize ChatGPT content. What makes me so confident when I say that?

When I use ChatGPT or Bing AI (let’s not forget the usefulness of that free tool), I never use the content without editing and making changes.

I also use these tools in a variety of ways, for rewriting text, paragraphs, or whole articles.

I have been doing so for quite a while now, and I have found that google will rank articles and posts even if they have some generated content in them. However, as I mentioned, I often edit extensively, because the content that ChatGPT generates can often be robotic or even repetitive.

The main point here is not to be afraid to use ChatGPT or other AI tools for writing and research. They can increase your speed, creatitivity and productivity.

So when you ask me, Is ChatGPT bad for SEO?, I say, when used properly, no ChatGPT is not bad for seo.

How to Use ChatGPT for SEO

I have used ChatGPT to create content for articles, videos, tweets and emails that have all helped me rank in Google and Youtube and get return traffic to several websites including …

AISashimi.com, MemeCoinHunt.com, NicheMoney.co and FirstPageResume.com to name a few.

And beyond using ChatGPT to write blog articles, it is useful for many other tasks associated with SEO including: writing emails to solicit backlinks, crafting intro text when posting on social media (such as LinkedIn), developing topic clusters and much more.

So without further delay, let’s dive in to some examples of how I use ChatGPT for SEO below…

Here are 12 Ways I Used ChatGPT for SEO

1. Use ChatGPT to Generate Related Keyword Lists

ChatGPT generates ideas, synonyms and related keywords very well. You can use it to get a list of keywords related to your target words that were not on your radar.

You can then use these words to write articles, or expand your product offering. (Kudos to Neil Patel for this idea.)

2. Use ChatGPT to Write Descriptions of Services

Once you have some new ideas, you can use ChatGPT to write a brief description of the new service and add it to your services if that makes sense for your business.

Here’s how it’s done. Using the phrase ChatGPT generated above “Custom car wraps”, get ChatGPT to generate some text on the topic.

2. Use ChatGPT to Generate a List of Keywords with Search Intent

ChatGPT can also provide ideas for keywords that people might use when searching for your services that are more specific.

Use this prompt to generate a list of keywords with different search intent built in.

The key here is to ask for “words that someone might use.” Remember, ChatGPT is good at generating ideas and word lists. However, they might not all make sense or be effective.

Use common sense and check to see if these words rank or have traffic before using them.

3. Use ChatGPT to Write Outreach Emails

If you have a list of fellow bloggers that you have quoted in an article, ChatGPT can help you write a quick email to let them know you have mentioned them.

Here’s one way to do it:

4. To Write Meta Titles and Descriptions for Marketing Pages

A sales page or marketing page usually has a few main headings. To get ideas for title and meta descriptions you can use a simple prompt to generate some options.

You can play with this technique and tailor your prompt with added requirements such as “include a number” or “use power words.” See what it generates!

5. Use ChatGPT to Create Seed Posts from Your Research

OpenAI is nice enough to provide a record of your previous searches in the sidebar. Depending on your business, this may provide a rich source of content for articles that might get indexed or rank.

Publish Past ChatGPT Chats for Rough Articles

I have begun to follow a publish everything (almost) idea.

Even a rough draft can get indexed and clicks.

Cast a wide net, and then go back and improve your articles if you start getting clicks.

6. Rewrite Portions of Ranking Articles

There is nothing new under the sun. Not sure who said that, but it is an old idea.

The fact is SEO is often a game of leap frog where you alter, borrow or out right steal content and ideas from top ranking articles.

ChatGPT can help speed up the process with the right prompts.

Use ChatGPT to Rewrite Text

As you can see, swapping synonyms doesn’t always work. You should always read what ChatGPT produces and make necessary changes (or try again.)

7. To Write Summaries of Articles for Roundup Posts

Everyone knows roundup posts can be an effective way to build relationships with fellow bloggers.

ChatGPT can help speed things up by summarizing blog posts.

Keep in mind that ChatGPT 3.5 has a limit of 4096 tokens or roughly 1000 words in English, so this will only work for articles that are 1000 words or less.

This is what it looks like:

Use ChatGPT to Summarize Articles

ChatGPT is a great summarizer. It summarizes better than it rewrites so take advantage of that feature and start writing some roundup posts using this technique!

8. To Generate a List of Frequently Asked Questions About a Topic

If you need examples of questions people might asked about a topic, you can ask ChatGPT to create a list of frequently asked questions.

9. To Generate Answers to Frequently Asked Questions in Google

Adding FAQs at the bottom of your posts based on the FAQs on Google search engine results pages can be beneficial for your page ranks.

For example, when searching for “chatgpt prompts” we get the following questions displayed:

You can use ChatGPT to Generate the answers to these questions quite easily. To get an answer to the second question, you might follow the example below.

10. To Convert Blog Posts into Video Scripts for Video SEO

Remember, for GPT 3.5, you can enter about 1000 words maximum. This is enough to process an short blog post. You can quickly generate a script for a video by prompting .

“Convert this text into a video script with a professional tone for a 5 minute video:” then paste the blog post.

11. To Write Introductions or Conclusions to an Article

Sometimes you just need to get started, and want some general text for an introduction. I have used ChatGPT for writing an introduction based on a topic.

12. To Generate Schema Markup for FAQs

Schema markup is great to provide rich results with Google loves. Here is an example of how you can generate schema markup to include in your post with ChatGPT.

For discovering suitable questions and answers to populate your FAQ schema, begin by searching your desired keywords. Take note of the content that appears in Google’s Answer Cards and the “People also ask” sections.
